As anyone who has been set up by a friend or looked for love online will know, going on a first date with a stranger can be a daunting, or even excruciating, experience.
So, when First Dates began in 2013, some viewers may have feared they were in for an hour of cringing at people having one of the most awkward meal of their lives on camera.
Instead, they found that while it may have its embarrassing moments, First Dates was also funny, involving and touching – largely because it’s clear that the programme-makers do try to pair up couples who stand a fighting chance of hitting it off.
Now Fred Sirieix, the maitre d’ of the First Dates restaurant, is looking for people to star on the show – but they don’t have to be single.
First Dates has put out an appeal for “genuine couples” to star in the background of the coming series. The popular First Dates restaurant has been throwing open its doors to single people looking for love since 2013 – often guided by Gallic words from philosophical French maitre d’ Fred Sirieix.

First Dates is a documentary series that sees selected singletons looking for love head to a London restaurant to have dinner with a blind date.
